Dock and dine options make boat the best way to travel to grab a bite to eat

A summer at the shore means it’s time to head out on the water. With beaches, bays and even more waterways, South Jersey is a boater’s haven. Many area restaurants let you leave your car at home, with their dock and dine options. So, if you’d rather have the sea breeze in your hair than your seat in a car, drop anchor at the following restaurants.

Gardner's Basin

Gilchrist Restaurant in Gardner’s Basin proves that the journey is as important as the destination.

“Boating to breakfast adds to the experience. It makes breakfast more of an event. We are so lucky that we can offer that,” says Mike Barham, owner. Gilchrist serves breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

Back Bay Ale House next door serves up a distinctly Key West vibe with its sunset cocktails, outdoor dining and unique menu. Back Bay Ale House serves lunch, dinner and drinks from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The marina at Gardner’s Basin can accommodate approximately 20 boats. There is no charge to dock for the day. However, if you decide to stay overnight, it’s $1.50 per foot plus $5 for electricity.

Atlantic City

Live entertainment and luxury yachts dominate the scene at The Deck at Golden Nugget. Serving lunch, dinner and drinks, The Deck is the perfect summer destination to head to by boat. It will be open daily beginning June 14. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Wonder Bar, located on the bay in the heart of Atlantic City, is the perfect spot to pull up to by boat. It serves lunch, dinner and a late-night menu, as well as offering bar service. With regular live entertainment and family-friendly dining options, Wonder Bar is a crowd-pleaser. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Luciano Lamberti Restaurant and Sunset Marina is the only restaurant in Ventnor, Margate or Longport that you can get to by boat. Currently in its 19th year, Lamberti’s is a popular boater’s destination, offering casual, al fresco, Italian fare for lunch and dinner and a full-service bar. People come for the food and stay for the sunset, of which they have a “perfect view,” says Owner Joe Lamberti. Lamberti’s is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Somers Point

Baia invites you to arrive by boat, have dinner then dance the night away. This spot features outdoor casual dining, indoor intimate dining, multiple decks and a packed entertainment schedule, including their popular Reggae Sundays. Baia serves lunch, dinner and offers a full-service bar. It is open daily for dinner from 4 to 10 p.m., but the bar stays open later. Mott’s Creek Inn Deck and Bar in Galloway will bring out your inner pirate. This casual eatery and bar is off the beaten path and offers beautiful views of South Jersey’s waterways.
