Stanley Cup Lightning Hockey

Lightning center Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night in Tampa.

Just when it looked like the Colorado Avalanche might punch out the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals, the title holders came roaring back with a flurry.

The Lightning pounded the Avalanche, 6-2, in Game 3 on Monday night in Tampa, pulling within 2-1 in the series.

Game 4 is Wednesday night at Amalie Arena.

It was an eventful performance that saw Steven Stamkos, Pat Maroon and Ondrej Palat each kick in a goal and as assist. Anthony Cirelli, Nicholas Paul and Corey Perry also scored as Tampa Bay avenged an embarrassing 7-0 beatdown in Game 3. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 37 saves to redeem himself and pick up his teammates.

Vasilevskiy's opposite, Darcy Kuemper, was shredded, yielding five goals before being yanked in the second period in favor of Pavel Francouz. Kuemper had 17 stops. Who will start in net for Game 4 remains in question. Gabriel Landeskog had both Colorado goals.

Also in question is the status of Lightning star Nikita Kucherov. He left the game in the third period following a cross check by the Avalanche's Devon Toews.

A series that looked like it could be a rout just got a whole lot more interesting.

Can Tampa Bay do what did against the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals and rally from two games down? Or will Colorado regain its footing and take a big edge before heading back home? FrontPageBets studies interesting wagers in the quest for the Cup.
