Spring is in the air (finally!) and the end of March brings one of the city’s biggest and best events — The Atlantic City Beer & Music Festival, presented by Bally’s Wild Wild West, also home of the official Beer & Music Festival after-party on Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30.
I often cover fashion’s hottest trends, where to snag the best deals and steals locally, and how to dress for some of life’s biggest milestones and holidays throughout the year. But, last week I found myself stumped in regard to what to wear when discussing this amazing beer-fueled event with friends. So I thought I would offer some advice and break it all down in this week’s column, now that the event is fast approaching.
A few things to consider before getting into the specifics. Be comfortable! To get the most of your Beer & Music Festival experience, you want to be able to comfortably enjoy all the different breweries and local venues being showcased, along with some of the area’s hottest bands as they take the stage. It’s a fun-filled, action-packed day, no matter which of the three sessions you opt to attend. Drawing hundreds of thousands of folks from the tri-state area and beyond, as well as so many local foodies and beer enthusiasts, chances are you will bump into someone you know, so vibe to imbibe — be casual, comfy, but also hip.
Tip #1: Wear comfortable shoes
Rule No. 1 of dressing for A.C. Beer & Music Festival — wear (cute) comfortable shoes. The A.C. Convention Center will be crowded, and there’s always a chance for some spillage so cover your tootsies! If you’re seeking something a bit more dressed up to get you through the after party at the Wild Wild West, opt for a wedge, which gives you a boost in height and foot support.

Tip #3: Don’t Be Afraid To ‘Dress’ Up
Sometimes we think casual must mean jeans or shorts, and that “dressing up” for a festival equates to sporting our very best Canadian tuxedo, but sometimes a great jersey or shift dress is the way to go. A “drinking dress” will allow you the comfort and flexibility that jeans just can’t compete with and can hide any expanding waistlines that come with hours of daydrinking and libations. Additionally, a dress will transition well into the evening, keeping you well-heeled into the wee hours of the night.

Tip #4: Free Your Hands To Double Fist
The worst move you can make at Beer Fest is showing up with a big old bag that weighs you down and prohibits you from savoring the best craft brews and yummy snacks the festival has to offer. With so many stylish belt bags and cross body options out there, there’s no reason to not go hands-free.

Tip #2 Get Carried Away With Accessories
Fashion girl multiplied by Beer Fest means accessorizing your outfit to the theme of the event, and who can forget one of Sarah Jessica Parker’s most iconic necklaces in Sex & The City — the Yossi Harari diamond and gold pretzel necklace she wore during a lunch session with Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte. The twisted look of a salted pretzel was symbolic of her love of NYC, representing the favorite street corner staple of Midtown Manhattan. While SATC was set in New York City, it serves as one of the most iconic television shows of our time with fashion being a major theme throughout the series. The show even has its own famous ties to Atlantic City when the four besties famously visited our seaside gaming destination. But, I digress! Simply put, there’s no better pairing for beer than a pretzel. And I am loving this Kate Spade New York look, available at Macy’s.
