5 boardwalk stops to grab a drink

  • 0

We can hardly think of anything better than taking a walk down a Jersey Shore boardwalk, unless of course we’re taking that walk with a beer in hand. Lucky for us, there are plenty of places to grab cocktails on two legendary South Jersey boardwalks: Atlantic City and Wildwood.

Steel PierAt Atlantic City’s iconic Steel Pier, there are no less than three boardwalk bars, all ready to welcome you with icy cold cocktails and breezy boardwalk views. Grab a to-go cocktail at Steel Pier Pub at the entrance to the pier, or stay a while for live tunes and axe throwing, or head inside the pier for drinks at the Wheel Bar. For incomparable ocean views, however, you’ll want to hit Ocean Reef Oasis, located at the back of the pier, where the views — at 1000 feet into the ocean — are spectacular, and the Cruzan Rum Buckets are plentiful. The Ocean Reed Oasis lives up to its name and is probably the best-kept secret bar in Atlantic City. If you go at sunset, you are likely to see dolphins swimming nearby. Get there on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer for their All You Can Eat Seafood Fest with live music. Located at 1000 Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Go to SteelPier.com for more information.

Wet Willie’sThere may be three Wet Willie’s locations in Atlantic City, but only one of them is on the Boardwalk. To enjoy your frozen concoction with an ocean view, head to the Wet Willie’s at Resorts. You can sit inside at any of their four hightops, but with views like theirs, why bother? Grab something strong like the Call A Cab made with cherry and strawberry flavors blended with 190-proof grain alcohol and Bacardi Rum, or a blended daiquiri like the AC Sunset made with a swirl of mango, strawberry and pina colada (and perfect for enjoying an A.C. sunset) in an insulated koozie, and savor your icy drink on these last days of summer. Located at 1133 Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Go to WetWillies.com for more information.

Boardwalk BiergartenIf you’re in the mood for a serious beer menu, look no further than Boardwalk Biergarten. With a European, garden-like atmosphere complete with outdoor games like cornhole and giant Jenga, the Biergarten boasts 30 beers on tap — focus is imported and European brews — in addition plenty of craft cocktails, making it a place you may never want to leave. Get there this weekend for music from Dr. Phil and the Heart Attacks on Friday, Dean & Company on Saturday, and Shaun Durnin on Sunday. Located at 2701 Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Go to BiergartenAC.com for more information.

Bally’s Beach BarIt’s tough to think of a place that better sums up our summer days — and nights — than Bally’s Beach Bar, where just about everything is brand new this year, including a daily beach BBQ with tempting culinary options such as grilled mahi mahi, frozen grapes and tequila-marinated watermelon and pineapple, in addition to the usual stuff like hot dogs and burgers. And though the grub is great, the live tunes and clever cocktails take any day up a notch. We’re particularly pumped about Bally’s Buckets (32-ounce bucket cocktails), adult snow cones, and Sun Doctor Orders, 32-ounce pouch cocktails that are perfect for taking with you on the beach or the boards. This week, get there for Lima Bean Riot, DJ Tonka, Jerry Blavat and The Benjamins on Thursday; Shake Shake Shake, DJ Freezie, DJ Mike Balik, LeCompt and DJ Adub on Friday; Constantine & The Frequency, DJ Patrice McBride, DJ Joey Dino, Go Go Retro, and DJ Vito G on Saturday; DJ Dave Mass, Lost in Paris, and DJ Aiden Scott on Sunday; and more DJ entertainment Monday through Wednesday; Located at 1900 Pacific Ave. in Atlantic City. Go to BallysAC.com for more information.

Morey’s PiersMorey’s Piers are pretty much synonymous with the Wildwood Boardwalk, and with good reason: From the amusement rides to the waterparks to the carnival games and ocean views, Morey’s Piers are guaranteed fun!. That’s why it’s no surprise they have not one, but FIVE places to grab a cold one, from Wilhelm’s Bier Garten and Pig Dog Beach Bar to Stubborn Bros. and Joe’s Fish Company Rooftop Bar, as well as The Founders Pub inside Jumbo’s Grub & Pub. Located at the front of Morey’s Mariner Pier, the bar pays homage to the legends who were integral to the seaside amusement industry with drinks like the Watch the Tram Car Please, a house margarita served frozen or on the rocks with your choice of added strawberry, mango or jalapeno; and The Golden Nugget made with ginger-spiced whiskey, blackberry puree, lemon juice, basil simple syrup, fresh basil and club soda. Kick back in covered outdoor seating and catch the sights and the sounds of the Wildwood Boardwalk. The Piers are located throughout the Wildwoods, but the Founders Pub is specifically located at 3501 Boardwalk in North Wildwood. Go to MoreysPiers.com for more information.
